Podcast Test
by Danny Fisher
The podcast is neither here nor not here.
That’s not some clever Buddhist maxim, but rather my way of letting you know that the first official episode of the podcast has arrived and that it’s less an episode than a test of about a minute in length.
The test was conducted with Audioblogger, a service that appealed to me because it makes mobile recording extremely easy.
However, I am concerned about the sound quality, hence this test.
Your comments, feedback, and suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

O.K., I don’t think the sound quality is especially great. Perhaps I’ll use Audioblogger for “field reporting” and GarageBand for “studio recording.” What do readers/listeners think?

Although… The volume is very good, it’s not unintelligible, and I think I would be inclined to podcast more often if all I needed was a phone.
Someone else join the conversation, please. It’s creepy that I’m talking to myself here. : )
Sounded ok to me, though I’m not particularly fussy. As you say, this might be good for ‘on the go’ recording. I don’t know much about the subject really, though I’m looking forward to regular posts – will they all be found here, or will we be able to subscribe via iTunes, and the like?
Only semi-related; do you sound like you think you ought? Recordings are funny things, particularly to the person being recorded.
The Great Dukkha Earl: Thanks for the feedback. Yes, you can subscribe to the podcast at iTunes. Just click this (an icon will appear on your desktop; open it, and iTunes will take care of the rest). And if you don’t use iTunes, click here for other options.

I never sound like I think I ought! In my own mind I sound like George Clooney, but on the podcast I sound like Bobcat Goldthwait. : )
If you have a microphone, it might be worht considering using a service like Odeo.com, which allows you to record online through a flash interface, and the quality is excellent.
With Audioblogger, we can hear you fine, but the quality is restricted by the phone you use.
Very cool.
Thanks for the suggestion about Odeo, Gareth. I checked out the site and, yes, the quality of the recordings is excellent.
That said, I think using Audioblogger for “field reporting” and another, more professional interface for “studio recording” will be the way I’ll go. I suspect this will mean that 95% of the podcasts (if not all of them) will be done with Audioblogger, but that’s O.K., I guess–that listeners can hear and understand the recording seems to be the most important thing. And, again, I’ll probably podcast more often given how easy it is.
Dan,
I have yet to figure out what you are doing, but I think you need to add some cowbell and some tambourine. This would jazz up the recording a bit. The gong is sooooo outdated. Please move into the 21st century already.
I’m sure you could guess this but adam posted this, not me! heff =)
You two are incorrigible.
Yep, more cowbell…really explore the space.
Nice to put a voice to the name.
