In the hustle and bustle around my return from India and the beginning of classes here in L.A., I neglected to mention in these pages that the Insitute of Buddhist Studies (I.B.S.) at the Graduate Theological Union in Berekely, CA, recently announced that the chaplaincy emphasis within its graduate degree programs was ready to go for the fall semester of 2007.
Making this announcement and others on the Buddhist Scholars Information Network (H-Buddhism), I.B.S.’s dean, Dr. Richard K. Payne, wrote:
- …A new emphasis in Buddhist Chaplaincy is also being initiated in Fall 2007. Additional information about this programmatic emphasis will soon be available on our website: http://www.shin-ibs.edu.
Since Payne’s email to H-Buddhism, information about the chaplaincy program has been added to the I.B.S. website, and can be found here.
Considering that the university announced their intention to create a chaplaincy program just last May, I must say that I am quite impressed with I.B.S.’s speed in readying this program for would-be Buddhist chaplains.
Congratulations, I.B.S.!
