Hi Danny,
I agree that the veep is a millstone around our collective necks……however, there’s only sixteen months until the national election and I think positive energy can better be spent elsewhere. I don’t see this U.S. House of Representatives impeaching the guy….nor do I see the U.S. Senate convicting him…..not that he shouldn’t be convicted of crimes against humanity. I think the time of caring people should be spent finding a replacement for this administration which can take over in January ’09 and work towards righting the wrongs that have been committed these past seven years starting with the election of 2000.
Best Wishes in getting your parents settled into their new home…..Jim Kalamajka
Jim: Thanks for your good wishes. The move is going well.
As for the impeachment question, I think my thoughts on the matter are well summed up by one of our great patriots:
What is impeachment? It’s not a Democratic versus Republican event. Not if used responsibly…Impeachment is the opportunity to proceed with accountability and give our elected senators, democratic and republican, the power to pursue a thorough investigation. The power to put the truth on the table. Mothers and fathers are losing their kids to horrifying deaths in this war every single day. Horrible deaths. Horrible maimings. Were crimes committed in enlisting the support of our country in this decision to go to war? For the moment we’re living the most spineless of scenarios; where the hawks abused impeachment eight years ago, now, the rest of us politely refuse to use it today. Let’s give the whistle-blowers cover, let’s get the subpoenas out there, and then, one by one, put this administration under oath.

You know, I was listening to Frank Rich this morning, speaking on a book tour. He said he thought impeachment proceedings would amount to a “decadent” sidetrack, while our soldiers were still being killed. I admire Frank Rich. And of course he would be right if impeachment is all we do. But we’re Americans. We can do two things at the same time. Yes, let’s move forward and swiftly get out of this war in Iraq AND impeach [this administration].
