Chaplain Danny, thank you for making this resource available.

I have studied Buddhism, "off and on", since shortly after I first enlisted (US Army, active duty) -- last year, in fact. During the later weeks of basic training, I would attend the informative Soka Gakka Int'l (SGI) services that were being offered, on post -- but I had not been aware of the scarcity of Buddhist chaplains. I suppose that is why SGI is invited to operate those services.

Since then, I have begun to rely on the availability of books via Amazon.com. There is not much of a sense of community, in it, though there be such materials available to study.

Online, I have read[1] that Samurai were inclined to notice the Rinzai traditions of Zen Buddhism, even early on in the formation of Rinzai traditions. and I have read the writings of Samurai giving some regard about Buddhism (and Daoism).

Yagyu Munenori wrote the most profound statement I have seen, to the question of the intersection of warrior's life and buddhism's precepts: Essentially, that while weapons may truly be regarded as instruments of ill omen, but when an evil is complete, it is attacked -- as it must be -- naturally.

If global peace is an ideal, but I am glad to serve while it is not yet a reality :^)> This community makes it easier on the heart and the spirit, to do so.

[1] Wikipedia: Eisai

Somya,
Hopefully we will meet again soon. Once it gets closer, I would like to know when and where your ordainment ceremony is. I would very much like to attend.
