Introduction to Buddhist Chaplaincy Day at the Zen Hospice Project
In a message to the Buddhist_Chaplaincy Yahoo! Group, Jennifer Block of the Zen Hospice Project announced that the organization would be hosting a day-long introduction to Buddhist chaplaincy on May 31st. Ms. Block will join fellow Buddhist chaplain Carlyle Coash at the Zen Hospice Project on 273 Page Street in San Francisco, CA, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., to talk about Buddhist chaplaincy in some detail. The event flyer (to the left) elaborates:
- Chaplains provide spiritual care and support to people in places such as hospitals, hospices, prisons and a wide variety of other settings. The work is wonderfully challenging and satisfying — a great opportunity to practice engaged Buddhism. Join us for an explanation of this field of service, which is gaining in size and scope in our communities. Professional Buddhist chaplains (Jennifer Block and Carlyle Coash) will introduce aspects of chaplaincy, review educational requirements for professional certification, and direct participants to volunteer opportunities. Information about the Sati Center’s Buddhist Chaplaincy Training will also be provided. All are welcome.
There is no cost, but you are encouraged to leave a donation. For more information, visit http://www.sati.org.
