Amnesty International’s Animated Film about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The animated short film below, from Amnesty International, is a must-see. Using a variety of animation techniques–from pen-and-ink to claymation to digital animation–it brings to life all thirty articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the UN General Assembly exactly sixty years ago, and it is today the most translated document in the entire world (according to the Guiness Book of Records).

Projects like this film seem especially important these days, as many nations are sadly failing to honor the commitments implicit in ratifying the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. (See this post about Amnesty’s annual report for 2008.)

Painting of Danny Fisher in Taiwan by Tina Gauthier

My wonderful pal Tina Gauthier, a professional artist and fellow Buddhist chaplain with whom I travelled to Taiwan earlier this year, sent me the loveliest of surprises this evening: photographs of a new work she did entitled Painting of Danny Fisher in Taiwan. I’ve always found Tina’s paintings so amazingly beautiful and evocative (I return again and again to her Chaplain Paintings), and feel honored to be part of one in some way.
