Just a Buddhist Minister Trying to Benefit Beings

In Washington Until Thursday

I’m out of town, in our nation’s capital, until Thursday night. I leave you with one of my favorite poems (below). More when I return.

“Timely Rain” by the Vidyadhara, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche

In the jungles of flaming ego,
May there be a cool iceberg of bodhicitta.

      On the racetrack of bureaucracy,
May there be the walk of the elephant.

May the sumptuous castle of arrogance,
      Be destroyed by vajra confidence.

In the garden of gentle sanity,
May you be bombarded with coconuts
      of wakefulness.

Important Items from the U.S. Campaign for Burma Blog

Below are three good items from the U.S. Campaign for Burma Blog today. As you would expect, they are catching everything about Burma. If you want to keep up with what’s happening there, be sure to keep your eye on their news feed.

  • The Human Rights Watch condemns the arrest of Zargana by the junta, and calls for his immediate release. (I blogged about his arrest in this post from last week.)
  • Mizzima reports that the junta closed and sealed the Sasana Theikpan monastery compound of Chauk Htut Gyi pagoda in Rangoon on Friday. The monastery had evidenced support for the pro-democracy uprising last fall.
  • Based on reporting from a Burmese magazine, the Washington Post reveals that the junta is parceling out control of so-called “reconstruction and relief” efforts in the Irrawaddy Delta to crony tycoons and companies.
