Help Children from Disadvantaged Communities Find Host Families for a Summer Program

I was recently contacted by Sara Wilson of the Fresh Air Fund, a 131-year-old nonprofit organization that provides free summer vacations to children from disadvantaged communities in New York City. Sara asked if I would spread the word about 200 inner-city children who have yet to be placed with host families for the month of August. If prospective host families are not found, screened, and vetted by the end of July, these 200 children may have to miss out on what the Fresh Air Fund has to offer.

This is a wonderful organization, and I encourage you to help out if you can. For more information, visit their online resource page at http://freshair.smnr.us. And if you’re a blogger, please spread the word.

The Southern Star: Auspicious Start for Spiritual Care Centre Project at Dzogchen Beara

The Southern Star ran an article recently about the opening of a new spiritual care center at Dzogchen Beara near Castletownbere, Ireland. The nearly 11,000 square foot facility, which is up to nursing home standards, is a place for the sick, the dying, and their loved ones to be cared for in a contemplative environment.

Dzogchen Beara operates under the spiritual direction of Sogyal Rinpoche. You can find out more about his caregiving efforts here.

Time Magazine: The Dalai Lama’s Buddhist Foes

Via Integral Options Cafe: Time Magazine has a story this week about the protests of Dorje Shugden worshippers against His Holiness the Dalai Lama. (I blogged about a demonstration of Western and Tibetan practitioners recently in this post.) For more information on all of this, the Wikipedia pages on both Dorje Shugden and the Dorje Shugden controversy are good places to start.
