The Nation‘s John Nichols writes for his blog The Beat that “China has reduced rather than increased its commitment to human rights as the [2008 Summer Olympic Games] have approached,” failing to uphold promises made to the International Olympic Committee when Beijing was selected to host the Games seven years ago. In his view (and I agree with him), the I.O.C. too has failed to hold China to their promises.
