Just a Buddhist Minister Trying to Benefit Beings

Month: September, 2008

A Note

I received an email today from someone who was upset that I had removed comments left last night at a post from 2007. This was done because I felt that the language used in some of the comments was unacceptable, and I will not host that here. I reserve the right to delete comments that use racist/anti-Semitic/homophobic language, as well as those that are slanderous and libelous. I had hoped I wouldn’t ever have to clarify that, but I will be making that clearer in the “Disclaimer” section of the right-hand column right now.

The Washington Post: Photographers Help Grieving Parents Take the First Step in Healing

The Washington Post reports on the D.C.-area non-profit Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, which “offers to send, at no charge, photographers to capture images of babies who have died or who are unlikely to live more than a few hours or days.” Projects like this can be an important part of the grieving process for parents and families that have experienced a stillbirth.

The International Herald Tribune: Death and Rebirth for Paying Customers at Thai Temple

The International Herald Tribune reports on Wat Prommanee, a Buddhist monastery in Nakhon Nayok, Thailand, that performs a “cleansing” ritual in which people can climb into coffins and experience “death and rebirth” for a fee. This is an interesting piece on aspects of Thai religion we don’t often hear a lot about.
