AP: Burma’s 1990 Election Winners Want Junta’s UN Seat

According to the Associated Press, members of Nobel Peace laureate and Prime Minister-elect Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy party have written a letter to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon asking that their representatives elected to parliament in 1990 be recognized in place of those from the ruling military junta. The junta held general elections in 1990, two years after seizing power and crushing a democratic uprising, but refused to cede power to Suu Kyi and the NLD.
