Here are the Tibet-related headlines for today:
According to the Associated Press, the Chinese State Council issued a report today “accusing the Dalai Lama of wanting to restore a backward feudal system in the Himalayan region.” In addition, the State Council claimed to be committed to preserving Tibetan language culture and applauded their efforts in this area. The 30-page white paper comes six months after the pro-Tibet demonstrations and rioting in Lhasa and elsewhere in Asia.
The AP also reports that a magnitude 5 earthquake hit Tibet today near the border with Nepal. “There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties,” the report states.
The Agence France-Presse reports that a Chinese delegation from their parliament’s ethnic affairs committee walked out of a meeting with the Czech parliament after deputies from the European country’s Green Party unfurled a Tibetan flag.
