The Washington Post: At Buddhist Temple’s Aviary, Problem Birds Find Feathered "Friends"
The Washington Post has a really neat piece today about an aviary on the grounds of the Kunzang Palyul Chöling Buddhist temple in Poolesville, MD. The temple’s aviary serves tropical birds–many suffering from a kind of seasonal affective disorder that causes them to self-mutilate. As the article explains:
- …Following a commandment to help all living beings, [caretakers at the temple look after] birds that are too aggressive, too frightened or too erratic to be pets.
