Just a Buddhist Minister Trying to Benefit Beings

A Buddhist Prayer for a New Hospital Wing

I’m sorting through some old paperwork this weekend, and just stumbled upon the below prayer that I wrote during my first unit of Clinical Pastoral Education in the summer of 2005. A new wing had opened at the hospital where I was interning, and the chaplains were all invited to offer prayers. This is what I said:

    May the ailing be mended.

May those suffering be delivered from pain,
And may their loved ones be supported and comforted.

    May the healers be protected,
    And the caregivers invigorated.

May the walls of this hospital hold all within them in the cradle of lovingkindness and compassion.

Another Great Episode of Chronicle Radio Dispatches

I made a great discovery this week in Shambhala Sun and Buddhadharma senior editor Barry Boyce’s December 2007 interview with Julia Sagebien for Chronicle Radio Dispatches. (Pardon the reference to something a bit old, but I’m catching up with some podcast episodes I’ve missed for one reason or another.) Although their fascinating conversation about Buddhist media/journalism would be enough to warrant an enthusiastic recommendation here, one conversation thread in particular demands that many reading give a listen: the two conclude the interview with a brief but serious talk about Buddhist blogging. It’s rare that the Buddhoblogosphere is discussed like this, and for that reason I really strongly recommend that Buddhobloggers check out what these two have to say here.

New Mandala: The Junta’s 2008 Constitution for Burma Translated in Full

New Mandala has posted a PDF English translation of Burma’s junta’s controversial constitution. Download it here (And for more information about the controversy justly surrounding this constitution, visit this blog’s archives for my previous posts on the subject.)

"If This Is For You…Good Luck"

A friend sent this video clip to me in the middle of last year, and I had planned to post it during Alcohol Awareness Month (in April). Our friend and past interviewee James Ishmael Ford reminds us, though, that anytime is a good time to post this particular clip. And to borrow James’ extraordinary eloquence:

…While I don’t actually know for whom I’m posting this, if it is you, good luck, friend…

(If after watching the clip you’d like more information or contacts, just follow this link.)
