Dāna Wiki

This from my fellow Buddhist minister Nathan Michon: A student at Harvard Divinity School has started a new Wiki page devoted to offering resources for Buddhist clergy and others. Dāna Wiki is “a collaborative handbook to help Buddhists start community service groups in their temples, dharma centers, and meditation groups,” the page reads. Take a look–and you can contribute as well.

Tibet News (3.31.09)

Here is some of the latest Tibet news:

  • Reuters reports that a Tibetan monk organizing farmers to refuse to plant crops in China’s Sichuan Province , was killed by Chinese police during a recent clash between the protestors and the authorities. Eight others were injured.
  • The New York Times reports that a vast electronic spying operation based mostly in China “has infiltrated computers and has stolen documents from hundreds of government and private offices around the world, including those of the Dalai Lama.”
  • Voice of America reports that the Tibetan Government-in-Exile has responded to this news, saying, “This misuse of knowledge, that’s of concern. And the other concern: this kind of thing is unethical.”
  • The Times also reports that “the Chinese government will reopen Tibet to foreign tourists on April 5 after a nearly six-week ban, according to the state-run news agency Xinhua.”
  • The Associated Press reports on China’s “Serf Emancipation Day” events.
  • Lastly, Reuters also reports that “Communist China and Taiwan are for the first time jointly hosting a Buddhist forum at this lakeside city on Saturday, as Beijing turns to Buddhism as a balm for global economic turmoil and internal unrest.”

  • Burma News (3.31.09)

    Here’s some of the latest on Burma:

  • Mizzima reports that “the United States State Department has once again saddled Burma with the moniker of a ‘country of particular concern’ (CPC) for the Burmese government’s failure to address the lack of religious freedom inside the troubled Southeast Asian country.”
  • Over at the Huffington Post, author Russ Wellen offer a two part piece on the Karen Independence Movement.
  • Xinhua reports that Burma will host the 27th Meeting of Energy Ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Energy Business Forum in Mandalay this July.
  • The UN News Centre issues a statement saying that people Burma affected by last year’s Cyclone Nargis still need “considerable help in restoring their lives.”
  • The Fresh Air Fund on Social Networking Sites

    Our friends at the Fresh Air Fund have entered the world of social networking. “Friend” them at both Facebook and Twitter.

    The "Buddhist Principal Leads Hate-Chants" Thing
