An Update on the Istituto Lama Tzong Khapa

Over at Shambhala Sun Space, our friend in the Buddhoblogosphere Rod Meade Sperry offers an update on the the state of the Istituto Lama Tzong Khapa, the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahāyāna Tradition’s center in Pomaia, Italy. The center was detroyed by fire this past December.

  • The BBC reports on how Tibetan exiles are “keeping Tibetan identity alive.”
  • The Christian Science Monitor also writes about exiles and their “thriving” system of education.
  • A tourist from Hong Kong details for the Associated Press the high degree of tension in Tibet in the days before the 50th anniversary of the Tibetan Uprising.
  • To mark that anniversary, Amnesty International offers to the press a media briefing and the offer of available spokespersons. They also write:

      Based on official statistics, the Chinese authorities have released 3,027 of the 4,434 people detained in March 2008. Testimonies of those released tell a story of desperate prison conditions including beatings, refusal of medical treatment and inadequate food and drink.
