Just a Buddhist Minister Trying to Benefit Beings

The Telegraph on the Anglican Buddhist Bishop

I’ve not really posted about the fracas over Anglican priest and Zen practitioner Kevin Thew Forrester’s election as bishop. The Telegraph has the whole story. Conservatives in the Episcopal Church are demanding that Forrester be “barred from the episcopate because he received a ‘lay ordination’ from a Buddhist group.” The priest himself explains that his Zen practice “deepens his Christian faith.” For more on this, check out what our friend and past interviewee James Ishmael Ford has to say over at his blog Monkey Mind.

Zen Boyfriend?

The San Francisco Chronicle‘s David Ian Miller interviews Mariana Caplan about her new play Zen Boyfriend — What is the Sound of One Heart Breaking? The piece is about dating men who “skillfully [use] spiritual ideals and practices to avoid being in a relationship with a woman”–a subject Caplan has previously written about for Tricycle. The play debuts Thursday, March 19th at the Unitarian Universalist Church on 1187 Franklin Street in San Francisco.

Energy Efficiency for Europe

This from Avaaz.org:

Boilers, fridges, TVs and other products in our home produce 50% of all of Europe’s carbon pollution!

Europe could meet half of its current 2020 target to reduce carbon emissions and fight climate change just through requiring these appliances to meet energy efficiency standards. And that would also save us all money on our electricity bill!

Out of sight of the public, EU nations’ regulators are about to agree on a new set of standards. But vested industrial interests are pushing hard to water down the proposals. A big public outcry can still defeat the industry lobbyists, but time is short…
