UBCV Leader Thích Quảng Độ Protests Mining of Bauxite in Vietnam by the Chinese

“Vietnam’s dissident Buddhist monk Thích Quảng Độ has joined a group to oppose a Vietnam government plan to mine bauxite.” Photo by the Agence France-Presse.
According to the Agence France-Presse, Thích Quảng Độ, head of the government-banned Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam (UBCV), called on workers to “stay away from factories to protest the plan to allow Chinese companies to mine bauxite in Vietnam’s Central Highlands.”
The UBCV is a religious organization that has repeatedly refused to come under state control since its inception. In addition, as mentioned above, the Buddhist order has been effectively banned by the communist government since the 1980s. As I blogged last August, Thích Quảng Độ has been the leader of the UBCV since the death of its patriarch, the Most Ven. Thích Huyền Quang.

I don’t mean to be splitting hairs here, but so long as you’re including the Vietnamese diacritics, his full name is: Thích Quảng Độ. Thanks for the post!
Ah, man, you’re right–there is a diacritic there! I think this means it’s time to get my eyes checked again… : )
Seriously, thanks for the tip. I like to get these things right.
