Burma News (5.10.09)

Two major stories about Burma today:

  • First, both the United Press International and the Associated Press are reporting that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Nobel Peace laureate and Burma’s Prime Minister-elect, is sick and being refused proper medical attention by the junta.
  • Second, the New York Times reports on the Kachin tribesmen who “inhabit the hills along [Burma's] border with China [and] have a reputation as stealthy jungle warriors.” Currently, they are “hoping for peace but are prepared for battle with [the junta].”
