Here’s the latest on what’s happening in Burma:

  • The Agence France-Presse reports on global plans to mark the birthday of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Burma’s Nobel Peace laureate and Prime Minister-elect who is currently standing trial before the ruling military junta.
  • Reuters reports that “Britain wants further targeted international financial sanctions to increase pressure on [Burma] to free opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other political prisoners.”
  • Reuters also reports that the Karen National Union will “adopt guerilla tactics rather than waste lives” trying to defend their stronghold on Burma’s border with Thailand.
  • The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting presents the images that a photojournalist who snuck into Burma to report on the Kachin freedom movement smuggled out.
