Burmese monks will present their case to world leaders gathered in Pittsburgh for the G-20 Economic Summit, during three days of events surrounding the Summit.
A delegation of at least 20 monks, led by Venerable U Kovida, will voice their concerns regarding the repressive regime in Burma in public events in Pittsburgh, including a People’s March to the Summit.. The monks will appeal to world leaders to support basic human freedoms in their country by calling for action in four areas.
- Insisting on the release of Aung San Suu Kyi, as well as the other 2,000 political prisoners including over 200 monks and nuns;
- Backing a comprehensive global arms embargo against the Burmese region;
- Pressing for the regime to allow the ICRC full access to the prisons and labor camps;
- Starting a UN Security Council investigation into crimes against humanity committed by the regime.

10am, Peace Walk from 330 Sampsonia Way to Point State Park
3pm, Venerable U Kovida to speak at People’s Voices/Public Tribunal

12 noon, Monks join in the People’s March to the G-20 Summit
