Seven Years in Tibet Now Available for Free Download at Hulu

Seven Years in Tibet, Jean-Jacques Annaud’s popular 1997 film adaptation of Heinrich Harrer’s book, is now available for free download at Hulu. Here’s the description from the website:

Heinrich Harrer is an Austrian mountaineer in search of fame and glory. His 1939 adventure takes him to Tibet where the Dalai Lama teaches him selflessness.

When interest in Buddhism (and Tibet) had a “boom” in the late nineties, Time Magazine used the film as a kind of flashpoint for their coverage–as you can see from the image to the right.  The film was released at the same time as Martin Scorsese’s exquisite Kundun, an adaptation of Mary Craig’s biography of the current Dalai Lama’s family.  I’m much, much, much more partial to Scorsese’s film (and strongly urge you to see it if you haven’t), but Annaud’s film has good bits.
