A Gift of Dharma for 6.12.10
Today’s quote is yet another from His Holiness the Dalai Lama–the one and only–whom I first quoted and wrote a short biography for in this post. This is it–courtesy, once again, of my Insight from the Dalai Lama Desk Calendar:
When we talk about the Buddha, we are not talking about someone who was a Buddha from the beginning. He began just like us. He was an ordinary sentient being who saw the same sufferings we do; birth, old age, sickness and death. He had various thoughts and feelings, happy feelings, and feelings of pain, just as we do. But as a result of his strong and integrated spiritual practice, he was able to achieve the various levels of the spiritual path culminating in enlightenment.
