Today is Aung San Suu Kyi’s 65th Birthday
by Danny Fisher
Today is the 65th birthday of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Burma’s democratically-elected Prime Minister and the world’s only imprisoned Nobel Peace laureate–kept under house arrest by her country’s ruling military junta for fourteen of the last twenty years. (For more about here, I recommend this recent editorial written for The Irrawaddy.)
I hope that you will take some time today to do some actions for her. Her are some suggestions:
- Demand Her Immediate Release at Amnesty International’s Online Action Center
- Stand With Suu Kyi Photo Action
- Rally for Aung San Suu Kyi on her 65th Birthday Today in Washington, DC
- Arrest Yourself 2010 – Global Action for Aung San Suu Kyi
- 64 Words for Aung San Suu Kyi
I leave you with two songs about “The Lady”…

Thanks for the reminder, and a great post. I’ve linked to it on twitter and Facebook.
By the way, Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock also have an instrumental piece dedicated to (and named after) Aung San Suu Kyi.
