Today’s quote is yet another from His Holiness the Dalai Lama, whom I first quoted and wrote a short biography for in this post.  He celebrates his 75th birthday this week, and we wish him a happy one.  This is it–courtesy of my Insight from the Dalai Lama Desk Calendar:

Living in society, we must share the suffering of our fellow citizens and practice compassion and tolerance not only toward our loved ones but also toward our enemies.  This is the test of our moral strength.  We must set an example by our own practice.  We must live by the same high standards of integrity we seek to convey to others.  The ultimate purpose is to serve and benefit the world.

The Saffron Revolution and Its Aftermath…Two-and-a-Half Years Later

This courtesy of our friend and past interviewee Erick D. White:  Over at East Asia Forum, the University of Wisconsin’s Ingrid Jordt looks at “the monks’ protest and its aftermath” in Burma.

Burma’s ‘Saffron Revolution’ marks its two-and-a-half year anniversary as the country anticipates national elections this year. The monks’ 2007 protests represented the most serious threat to military rule since the 1988 uprising.

CBS News Interviews His Holiness the Karmapa

They also interview others about the possibility of His Holiness as “successor” to His Holiness the Dalai Lama (in terms of leading the Tibetan people in exile).  Read it here.
